Tips for Better BIPS via Zoom

Our schools serve students with increasing behavioral and social-emotional difficulties that negatively impact educational growth. In this session, we will explore what the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act requires when a student with a disability exhibits behavior that impedes his or her learning or the learning of others. Participants will examine recent U.S. Department of Education guidance and case law that sets forth the essential steps for a comprehensive Functional Behavior Assessment. Through case law examples, we will probe the critical components of a legally defensible, specific, and individualized Behavior Intervention Plan that satisfies the obligation to provide a Free Appropriate Public Education. Participants will receive a checklist to guide them through the FBA and BIP process.
