Dissecting the Intersection of IDEA, 504, and Medical Services

The IDEA and its regulations have long defined “medical services” for purposes of providing FAPE, and Section 504 and the ADA have always imposed obligations to provide services, accommodations, and modifications for students with medical needs. But with the increases in student mental and physical health needs, those obligations have spread to every aspect of serving students with disabilities, including child find, evaluation, goals, accommodations, and more. This presentation will focus on students with medical needs or conditions that reach the boundary between a school’s obligations and the obligations of medical providers. Spoiler alert: there’s probably more overlap than you might expect!
